Monica Kay Gutshall, 57, of Carlisle passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at home after a short illness. She was born September 22, 1961 in Warren, Ohio, the only daughter of the late Robert E. Gutshall and Kathryn M. Cohick Gutshall.
Monica was a 1979 graduate of Big Spring High School. She was an eyeglass sales representative for thirty years. During that time, she worked for Safilo USA, Marcolin and Swank Optical. She enjoyed the friendships she built with her many accounts over the years. Prior to that she worked at Dr. Halliday’s office and also worked part-time as bartender and later manager of the Newville VFW Post 6070. Monica was a member of the Newville American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Carlisle Elks Lodge and a life member of the Carlisle AmVets Ladies Auxiliary and Carlisle VFW Post 477 Ladies Auxiliary. She was an active volunteer in the community and with the Carlisle AmVets Ladies Auxilary in addition to many years spent as the coordinator of the Newville Lions Club Miss and Junior Miss Newville Pageants. She enjoyed dancing, parties, talking to everyone and anyone, traveling, Broadway musicals and having fun.

She is survived by her loving children; Dashell Robert Fittry and Katlyn Alexandra Fittry, both of Carlisle; two grandchildren; Nehemiah Childs and Karrihanna Childs and many loving cousins. Also surviving are her ex-husband, and friend, Gary Fittry and her devoted dog Jasmine.
A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2019 in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. A viewing will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home and on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until time of service. www.Since1853.com.
