Marlene E. Spangler, 84, of Newville, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Swaim Health Center. Marlene was born on November 17, 1935 in Chicago and was the daughter of Sahak and Marie (Kretowicz) Housepian.
She is survived by her children; Robert G. (Jane) Sokoloski, Karen (Lynn) Gensler, Donald (Kim) Sokoloski, Glenn (Lydia) Sokoloski, Carl (Robin) Sokoloski, Lynn (Brad) Fickes, Elaine (Rick) Barrick, Susan (Jason) Reeves, and Paul Spangler. Marlene is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, one sister Shirley Garrick, one brother Joseph (Laena) Sokoloski, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her husband Paul Spangler.

She studied Business Accounting at Penn State Abington and Tax Preparations at various institutions. She was a former Accounting Supervisor at SPX and GS Electric. Additionally, she was known as the local tax lady and volunteered her services to many people in the community, who all became her friends. Family was extremely important to Marlene and she was an important presence at any sporting event, theater production, musical concert, and dance recital. She enjoyed traveling and hosting picnics by her pool. Her door was ways open as she loved everyone and was Mawmaw to everyone.
