James J. Chestney, 90, of Carlisle, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home in Carlisle. He was born on December 2, 1928 in Newville and was the son of the late James A. and Vesta (Fahnestock) Ott McCalister. Jim was married to the late Margaret (Crooks) Chestney and the late Janet (Hurley) Chestney.
He graduated in 1946 from Newville High School. Jim served as the Corporate Vice-President of Marketing and Training for the former Washington National Insurance Co. and retired after 28 years of service. In retirement, Jim was very active in the preservation of the Big Spring watershed. He was a member of the Chapel on the Hill United Church of Christ in Seminole, FL, Cumberland Valley Trout Unlimited, Carlisle Fish & Game Assn., Harrisburg Fly Fishers Club and the Carlisle Elks Lodge.

He is survived by two sons; James E. (wife, Marlene) Chestney of Carlisle and Craig A. (wife, Pam) Chestney of Harrisburg, one daughter, Karen L. Buckner of Cheyenne, WY, stepchildren; Barry L. (wife, Sue) Hurley of Newville, William F. (wife, Deb) Hurley of Newville and Sharon K. (husband, Gary) Kirby of Newville, one niece, M. June (husband, Tom) Cook of Mount Pleasant, SC, five grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 21 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter.
A visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2019 followed by a celebration of life service at 11:00 a.m. at the Mt. Holly Church of God, 602 McLand Dr., Mt. Holly Springs, PA with Rev. Richard Reese officiating. Burial will be private in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Newville.
