Claudia Eby

Claudia “Joan” Cooper Brehm Eby, 87, of Carlisle, passed from this earth on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 surrounded by her loving family at her son’s home in Carlisle. She was born in Windom, West Virginia, to Jimmie and Elsie Jane (Byrd) Cooper on October 2, 1931. She was preceded in death by her husbands; Paul A. Brehm in 1983 and by Alvin E. Eby in 1992.

At age 16, she graduated from Pineville High School, Pineville, WV. Later she received an Associate Degree in Accounting from LaSalle University. She was very active in the Carlisle Church of Christ, where she was a member for 66 years. She taught various grades, Ladies’ Bible classes, and was active in many programs of the church.

She loved her country and supported those people she thought would do the country the most good. She was a very gracious person, such as sharing her home various times whenever the need arose through the church. She helped in other various ways as she saw the need. She was considered the “matriarch” of the family. She started her career at age 16 working for an Insurance Company in Pineville. She later moved to Carlisle and got employment with the former C. H. Masland and Sons. Joan then worked for Giant Foods (Ahold) where she retired. She was also an Income Tax Preparer for many years, and also worked for H and R Block. She belonged to TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) for many years and served in various offices. She enjoyed traveling, working with flowers, and spending time at her cottage.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Linda Brehm with whom she lived at the time of death; one daughter, Martha “Jane”’ Greeger, widow of Ray “Bud” Greeger, Carlisle, son and daughter-in-law, Richard And Karen Brehm of Chattanooga, TN, one sister, Drema “Yvonne “ Line, wife of Larry Line of Lancaster, daughter in-law, Edna Brehm, Carlisle, widow of her son, Ronald Brehm, one step-daughter, Norma Eby Nye and her husband, Bert Nye of Robesonia, one step-son Jerry Eby and wife, Martha of Mt. Holly Springs, 8 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by one son, Ronald and two brothers; Lowell Kyle Cooper and James Nicholas Cooper. She is also survived by her beloved dog, Coco, who brought great comfort during her two-year battle with Cancer.

A viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, June 14, 2019 followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in the Carlisle Church of Christ, 971 Walnut Bottom Rd., Carlisle, PA 17015. Burial will be in Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
