Singer-Songwriter Jeffrey Gaines, a Harrisburg native, celebrates his long-awaited CD, “Alright,” with an album release show Friday.
The event is planned for 8:30 p.m. Feb. 2 at Stage on Herr in Harrisburg. Gaines will be performing selections from his new album, which showcases his hallmark soul-searching lyrics and catchy, uplifting melodies. The venue is located at 268 Herr St., in Harrisburg and is part of the Harrisburg Midtown Arts Center complex.
Gaines has a career that stretches for two and a half decades. Beginning with a self titled album in 1992, this impressive singer and guitarist has built a body of albums that have earned him a strong fan base both in the United States and abroad.
Recorded in Los Angeles on the Omnivore record label, “Alright” marks Gaines’ first studio recording in 15 years. The CD is comprised of 10 new songs featuring Gaines’ voice and guitar playing alongside an all-star studio band, including guitarist Val McCallum, bassist Davey Faragher and drummer Pete Thomas. Aside from the Midstate album release show, Gaines will also be doing shows in New York City and Los Angeles.
Gaines has played his single “Hero In Me” on “Good Morning America,” and has performed his original compositions live on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” VH1, NBC’s “Friday Night Videos” and A&E’s “Breakfast with the Arts.” He has toured with a variety of artists including Paula Cole, Tori Amos, Tracy Chapman, Melissa Etheridge, Sting, Shawn Colvin, Edwin McCain, The Bacon Brothers, Joe Jackson and Stevie Nicks.
Gaines was one of the artists invited to contribute vocals to the benefit album, “We are Family,” which was produced by Nile Rodgers after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. The CD was dedicated to the vision of a global family, and profits went to the families affected by the tragedy.
As well-crafted as his studio recordings are, Gaines is also a dynamic performer on stage. He has built a strong rapport with his fans, and generally will play without a set list—instead spontaneously picking songs that match the audience’s energy and vibe. Gaines’ strong performance style is captured on “Jeffrey Gaines Live” as well as “Live in Europe,” which was recorded during his 25-city tour with Joe Jackson.
Tickets the Central PA Album Release Show are $20. The show begins at 8:30, but doors open at 7 p.m. For tickets and information, visit www.harrisburgarts.com.
