First Night Carlisle

Residents take a carriage ride during First Night Carlisle last year.

Now in its 20th year, First Night Carlisle has established itself as the area’s premier family-oriented New Year’s Eve celebration.

Held in a variety of venues in downtown Carlisle from 5 p.m. to midnight, the event features a packed schedule of performances as well as food, carriage rides and a fireworks display at midnight.

Those wishing to attend can purchase a button for $10 in advance and $15 on the evening of the event. For many residents who come year after year, First Night Carlisle makes sure to offer a full slate of entertainment.

The Carlisle Theatre will play host to this year’s headlining performance — a tribute to Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline. Tribute artists Terry Lee Goffee and Josie Waverly bring these two iconic country stars to life with hits such as “Ring of Fire,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Crazy” and “I Fall to Pieces.”

Waverly will give her Patsy Cline performance at 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., and Goffee will portray the “man in black” from 9:15 to 10:30 p.m. They will perform together from 10:45 to 11:45 p.m. for a finale. Cash & Cline will be preceded by Brad Crum who will impersonate Elvis Presley from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Variety will be the name of the game outside of the theater with a wide range of musical styles being offered.

Some highlights include modern blues with songwriter Gina Sicilia who will perform at Dickinson College’s Weiss Center at 7 p.m., 8 p.m. and 9 p.m.

There will also be funk, pop and classic rock with the Janelle Verones Band who will perform at Comfort Suites at 7 and 8 p.m., and in the same venue Latin rock by Los Monstros who will perform at 9:30 and 10:30 p.m.

Additionally, sibling harmonies will be on display when Topper Broz brings its timeless songs from the 1960s and 1970s to the Old Courthouse at 9:30 and 10:30 p.m.

Other shows of note include an appearance of the Celtic Martins, a family group of fiddlers and step dancers who will play at St. John’s Episcopal Church at 5, 6 and 7 p.m., and stirring harmonies and stellar guitar work with Voxology who will play at the Old Courthouse at 6, 7 and 8 p.m. Also, check out the Vulcans, a delightful Americana group who will play in the Anita Tuvin Schlecter Auditorium at 7, 8 and 10:30 p.m.

Be sure not to miss a First Night Carlisle favorite, the Steppin’ Woofs of Fieldwood, who will perform at Bosler Memorial Library at 5 and 6:30 p.m. It’s a group of dog lovers who perform zany routines to music along with their dogs!

While at the library, make sure to also enjoy children’s theater with the Popcorn Hat Players at 8 p.m., 9 p.m. and 10 p.m.
