Allenberry Resort Inn and Playhouse officials Wednesday announced the resort will have a grand re-opening of its playhouse in July.
Allenberry reached an agreement with Keystone Theatrics to provide programming and entertainment at the Playhouse, as well as around the property, officials said in a news release. Keystone Theatrics will provide live programming for the entertainment and education of audiences of all ages.
Keystone Theatrics is under the leadership of Executive Director Dustin LeBlanc, a Boiling Springs native and central Pennsylvania theater veteran. LeBlanc was the artistic director of Carlisle Theatre Company and former board chairman of the Carlisle Theatre before his term expired last fall.
LeBlanc said he has been in talks with Allenberry since December about taking over the live entertainment at the Monroe Township facility. He is leaving his post at CTC, but said he will be involved to help the transition go smoothly at the theater company. LeBlanc often served as director of CTC’s musicals and starred in many of the productions.
The Actors Professional Theatre Conservancy had been located at Allenberry before the resort closed last year. It found a new, temporary home at Carlisle Theatre to provide its educational workshops. LeBlanc said the conservancy will be folded into Keystone Theatrics and will continue to offer those workshops.
A full first season at Allenberry will include main-stage shows, family-series shows and workshop opportunities. LeBlanc said a full lineup will likely be announced by the end of March.
The original Playhouse at Allenberry opened in summer 1949 and had been a leading attraction and activity at Allenberry Resort.
“Keeping live theater and entertainment at Allenberry is honoring a tradition and will be great for the community,” LeBlanc said in the announcement.
Renovations to the theater are well underway, according to the news release. These include major building improvements both inside and out, along with some restoration, including the original Box Office, and construction of a new concession stand and bar. There will also be new lighting and audio systems.
