A steakhouse that ended a four-year vacancy of a property in South Middleton Township has closed its doors.
Roadhouse Steak and Seafood last week posted a sign about its closure in the 900 block of Walnut Bottom Road, and South Middleton Supervisor Tom Faley confirmed that it is going out of business.
The steakhouse had only opened in March after numerous false starts in getting the business ready. The initial plan was to have construction completed in November 2017 and the restaurant open in mid-December.
Plans for a steakhouse had been in the works as early as September 2016 by RB Investments, which purchased the property for $950,000.
The property had been the site of a Bonanza until a fire destroyed the restaurant in October 2013. Between the fire and the new development, the property had been vacant, with the only official interest coming from Sheetz for a proposed new site. That plan was shot down due to traffic and environmental concerns.
The current building is 7,700 square feet with parking for 95 vehicles and seating for 250 people. Initial plans looked to employ 22 people.
