HARRISBURG — Stephen Perez hit a walk-off single with two outs in the 12th inning, as the Harrisburg Senators topped the Akron RubberDucks 2-1 on Monday.
Drew Ward scored the game-winning run after he reached base with a single and advanced to third on a walk by Khayyan Norfork.
In the top of the first, Akron took the lead on a solo home run by Francisco Mejia. Harrisburg answered in the seventh inning when Norfork scored on a double play.
Harrisburg starter Kyle McGowin went seven innings, allowing one run and six hits. He also struck out five and walked one. Derek Self (3-2) got the win with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief while Mitch Brown (1-2) took the loss in the Eastern League game.
Norfork doubled and singled twice in the win. Yadiel Hernandez singled twice, also stealing a base.
For the RubberDucks, Mejia homered and singled.
The Senators' Jose Marmolejos was also named the Eastern League Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. The 24-year-old went 12-for-31 with three doubles, a triple, two homers, nine RBIs, eight runs scored and had an .885 slugging percentage last week, recording a hit in all seven games. He's batting .288 with 14 homers this season.
