Messiah women's basketball turned a tight contest into a comfortable victory, beating Oberlin 64-54 on Friday night in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. Messiah stays home, where it has not lost all season, advancing to Saturday's second round against Emory & Henry at 6 p.m. The Falcons (26-2) scored 23 points in the fourth quarter, flipping a 41-41 contest into a playoff win. Maci Thornton was 7-of-10 shooting, finishing with 22 points. Camp Hill grad Leah Springer chipped in 15 points of her own, while double-double specialist Alecia Rohrer contributed 12 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and two blocks in the win.
Dickinson sent three freshmen to the men's College Squash Association Individual Championships. Frank Goossens advanced to Saturday's portion after winning his consolation match 3-0. Sergio Martin made the second rebound before falling 3-0. And Finn Trimble also lost in the second round 3-1.
