Former Carlisle standout Deshawn Millington has found a rhythm at Palm Beach State. The freshman guard collected five straight double-digit games through Dec. 2, resetting is career high three different times. Through those five games Millington averaged 17.8 points, finishing Saturday with a career-best 25. He also averaged eight rebounds and seven assists the past two games for the Panthers, who went 3-2 during the stretch and are 7-5 this season. Millington is averaging 11 points, four rebounds and 2.7 assists.
Shippensburg head football coach Mark ‘Mac’ Maciejewski was named the 2017 AFCA Division II Region 1 Coach of the Year on Tuesday. Maciejewski led the Red Raiders to a 10-2 record and the opening round of the NCAA playoffs. In his seventh year in the position, he led the team to its fifth 10-win season in school history and first NCAA playoff berth in five years. The 2017 NCAA First Round berth is the sixth NCAA postseason appearance in school history.
Senior defensive back Kevin Taylor II was named last week to the 2017 Division II CCA All-Atlantic Region Football First Team squad. Taylor, a two-time All-PSAC Eastern Division First Team selection, led the Red Raider secondary with five interceptions (tied for fifth in the league). Taylor added six pass breakups for a total of 11 passes defensed, and added 34 total tackles.
The Penn State women’s volleyball team had six named to the AVCA Northeast Region team on Tuesday, including Simone Lee, Haleigh Washington, Ali Frantti, Heidi Thelen and Kendall White who were named to the regional team, and Abby Detering who was named to the honorable mention list. Simone Lee was also tabbed at the Northeast Player of the Year, while Head Coach Russ Rose was named the Northeast Coach of the Year.
Shippensburg senior Tra-C Davis was named the inaugural PSAC Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week. Davis, an NCAA qualifier, posted an indoor best clearance of 6 feet, 11 inches in the high jump on Saturday. Only 10 Division II athletes cleared that height last season.
