East Pennsboro fought valiantly, but a goal early in the second half proved to be enough as District 1 champ Villa Joseph Marie edged the Panthers 1-0 in a PIAA Class 3A quarterfinal Saturday afternoon at Twin Valley High School.
This is the second straight year the Jems (16-1-4) have eliminated the District 3 runner-up Panthers (23-2), though last year's came in the first round.
Miranda Bair cashed in a chance after a missed clear early in the second half to produce the game's only goal.
East Penn keeper made six saves in defeat. Villa enjoyed a slight edge in shots, and the corners were even.
The victory advances the Jems into Tuesday's semifinals against Lower Dauphin.
