The rivalry game always has the best atmosphere. That’s just how it was at Cedar Cliff High School on Friday night. Friday was the annual Cedar Cliff vs. Red Land game. This game isn’t just another old league game, it’s so much more for our two schools.
Cedar Cliff and Red Land are rivals in every sport because we share the same district. Every year each school tries to beat the other in every sport. This year at the first go around of the rivalry basketball games, Cedar Cliff took all the wins. The night started out with a boys JV game at 4 p.m., which ended with Cedar Cliff coming out on top.
Next up was our game at 6. We started out rough and slow despite the huge crowd. I don’t know if nerves got to us or if it was the zone defense Red Land was playing, but we weren’t playing like ourselves. We all seemed very hesitant, like we were afraid to make a mistake. After leading 21-10 at halftime, we came out with the fire and intensity the Cedar Cliff Lady Colts are known for. Once we got on a run there was no looking back.
It’s not very often that a girls basketball team gets to play in front of a packed house. We took all the energy and excitement in the gym and made the most of it. The score of our game ended up being 48-20 and we took the win. After our game it was the varsity boys’ time to shine. The Golden Corral was packed full of students and the gym was louder than ever. The boys quickly took control of the game resulted in a 73-31 win.
Overall, it was a great night to be a Cedar Cliff Colt. We got all three wins this time, but we can’t underestimate them for the next time we see them.
