Every year before the season starts our team makes goals for the upcoming season.
For the last four years it has been a goal to win the league and make it to the Giant Center. The last two years were more realistic of actually accomplishing these goals than my first two years. This year, however, we were one game short of both of these goals. For the league, we were right in the game with Lower Dauphin on its home floor down to the last second. Speaking for the whole team I will say that that loss crushed us. It didn’t defeat us, but it hurt a lot. We gave it our all both games we played them and each time it was close.
After not meeting that goal, we went into districts with the goal of getting to the Giant Center. Winning our first game against a very tall and physical Central Dauphin East team really got our adrenaline rushing. We were determined to get there and next was a familiar opponent of ours: Central York. We had not played them yet this year, but we faced them a few times last year and we were hungry for revenge. Winning this game would have propelled us to the Giant Center, but we came out very slow in the first half and lost it.
For the seniors on our team this loss hurt more than anything that had happened this season. We had been working for four years to get there and at our last chance we let it go. We knew we couldn’t give up because we still have states left.
Since our two main goals were gone, we now have new ones that weren’t planned before the season. Now we wanted to finish in fifth place instead of sixth for districts, and beating a huge very aggressive Dallastown team let us accomplish this goal.
Our last and final goal for the season is to make a run in states just like last year. For me and the other five seniors on the team, we don’t want to be done just yet. We are the first girls team at Cedar Cliff to make it to states two years in a row and we want to continue making our school and our community proud with every last game we play.
