After a disappointing week for our team, I know the wrestlers are all ready for their Sunday off before the next week of practice begins.
On Thursday we faced off against Northern. We went into the match already in the hole, as we were missing wrestlers from our lineup, and we ended up taking a loss. Despite this, the seniors were happy to be greeted with cake in celebration of our senior recognition night. Though the match didn’t go as we had hoped, I was content with the way we wrestled and I’m glad I got to spend my last home match with the other seniors I’ve grown up with.
Over the weekend, we attended Waynesboro Duals. Going into the tournament we were expecting to leave with five more wins, but due to some last minute holes in our lineup, we were unable to compete at the level we wanted. It’s not easy coming back from an 18 point deficit at the beginning of a match. We took this as an opportunity to get some good matchups for our wrestlers and build individual confidence. Nick Tewell and I both left the tournament with 5-0 records, which was good to add to our win counts.
Our next match is against Harrisburg, which I believe to be a winnable match even with our current lineup being out of sorts. We are going to be seeking bonus points, as usual, and we need to focus on wrestling for the team, not as individuals. It means that if a wrestler is down by seven points, they can’t get turned or give up another take down to save us the major.
I believe that we can still have a successful season despite these setbacks and I’m sure the coaches do too.
