This winter break has been full of hard conditioning and tough wrestling from our team and we were put to the test at the Conestoga Valley Holiday Classic tournament. As a team, the outcome wasn’t what we were looking for, but everyone wrestled tough and left everything on the mat.
Nick Tewell had some big wins and ended up taking second place, which is a huge improvement from previous years. He wrestled like a true competitor and it’s a good example for the rest of the team to look up to.
After the completion of the first day we headed back to the hotel. Even though we got an extra pound on the second day, some wrestlers still had some weight to shed off by the next morning. One of our roommates brought mozzarella sticks and mac n’ cheese into the hotel room and Nick just stared at them as he said, “I don’t want to eat them… but can I just look at them?” It’s one of those moments that sums up wrestlers losing weight.
This week we have off New Years Day, so the following Tuesday we are having two practices to get everyone back on the grind and to make sure everyone’s weights are alright for our big week of home matches against West Perry and Hershey. We are hoping to add two more wins to our record this week and perform for our home crowd.
Commitment from the team is needed more now than ever as the intensity is picking up. We are adding more practice rules which will be tougher and the competition is about to get harder as we head into the second half of the season.
