HOLLIDAYSBURG — Camp Hill drained 12 shots from behind the arc to edge Greensburg Central Catholic 60-52 in a PIAA Class 2A second round game at Hollidaysburg High School Thursday night.
“I knocked down the first two and they kept backing off, so I kept shooting,” Lion sniper Sheridan Reid said. “I have never been that hot in a game. When we all are hitting shots, it makes us much better. Katy Collingsworth knocking down those two shots were big for us.”
Camp Hill (23-4, District 3 champs) started slowly, but wound up the offense late in the first quarter when the 3-pointers started to fall. The Lions hit seven 3s in the opening half to take a 34-21 lead into the locker room.
Greensburg Central Catholic (19-7, District 7 No. 4) led 6-3 early behind Hailey Moore’s six points.
The Lions went on a 10-2 run to take a 13-8 lead and led 18-15 after one quarter. Collingsworth knocked down a jumper and a trey from the right corner to extend the Lions lead to 27-19 and the Centurions appeared discombobulated. The Lions ended the half on a seven point run.
Reid canned a 3 from the arc on three straight possessions to give the Lions a 47-29 lead — prompting a timeout from Centurions coach Joe Eisaman.
The Centurions outscored the Lions 6-3 over the next minute, but a huge 3 from Collingsworth to open the final eight minutes gave the Lions some breathing room.
Camp Hill worked the ball around and was able to get to the foul line and close out the game. The Centurions ended the game on a 12-2 run for the final score.
“When we hit our shots, we are a much tougher team to defend,” Lion coach Mark Clarke said. “Different players have stepped up to hit big shots for us, but Sheridan and Katy were big shooters. Diamond and Passion Bragg made huge plays that won’t show up in the box score, but both played huge tonight.”
Reid led the Lions with 22 points while Diamind Bragg had 17, seven rebounds, five assist and four blocked shots. Passion added 10 rebounds and Collingsworth tallied eight points.
For the Centurions, Hailey Moore led with 21 points and Brittany Stawovy added 19.
The Lions will play in the quarterfinals against the winner of the Old Forge/Mahonoy City game at a site to be announced and time to be determined.
