Two years in, Red Land’s Mike Zangari is out as the boys basketball coach.
Zangari, a Red Land and East Carolina University grad, stepped down shortly after the Patriots concluded a 2-19 season.
York Daily Record first reported the news, and athletic director B.J. Cashman confirmed the news to The Sentinel late Monday night. Cashman could not comment further until after the West Shore School Board accepts Zangari’s resignation at its next meeting Thursday.
Zangari was hired at 23 years old to replace Jeff Sparrow, becoming the youngest head coach in the Mid-Penn at the time. The former two-time All-State selection had 1,697 career points in his varsity playing days and took over a squad that went 9-13.
He played at ECU under former Carlisle great Jeff Lebo.
The Patriots went 2-19 this season, both wins coming against Palmyra. Overall, Zangari’s teams went 6-36 in two seasons. Angel DeJesus led Red Land with 15.1 points per game and 35 made 3-pointers.
