Two head coaching positions are set to be filled at Thursday’s Carlisle school board meeting.
According to the agenda posted on the school’s website Wednesday evening, the Thundering Herd tabbed Chris Barnett as the new varsity baseball coach and Robert Mundell as the new varsity boys lacrosse coach, both pending board approval.
Barnett steps into the position previously held by Travis Smink, who resigned May 11 after an alleged post-game incident where he reportedly cursed at and berated at least one player on April 26. Smink, who was coaching his fifth season, had been suspended on April 28 after the incident had occurred.
Barnett, a source confirmed, was the head coach at Boiling Springs for six years, ending in 2013.
Mundell becomes the boys lacrosse team’s third coach in program history and takes over for long-time head coach Steve Kidder, who had been with the team for 18 seasons, 11 of them as head coach. The position will be a shared one for Mundell.
Mundell’s older son, Johnathan Mundell, is a junior midfield at Capital University (Ohio).
A call to athletic director George Null on Wednesday evening was not immediately returned.
Barnett is set to make $5,752.20 and Mundell will make $1,150.44.
Carlisle still has yet to fill the girls basketball head coaching position vacated by Gabrielle Guynan, who resigned after two years on the job in late May.
East Pennsboro approves new coaches
Donald Morgan (girls basketball head coach), Robert O'Connor (boys soccer) and Robert Muhlhauser (cross country) have all been approved for their new head coaching positions.
