Every Monday night for the rest of the high school year, our sports staff will name a Sentinel Athlete of the Week featuring one area athlete who stood out in competition.
This week we select Cumberland Valley baseball player Drew Baughman. The junior, who has already verbally committed to Liberty University, went 6-for-9 in three games for the Eagles (2-1, 1-1 during that stretch), nabbing seven RBIs, two runs, three doubles and hitting a grand slam to top it off.
Q: What are your keys to success as a baseball player?
A: My key to success is more preparation than anything. Other than being prepared physically and mentally, a big focus of mine is being relaxed. It is easier for me to be relaxed on the field when I know I took the necessary steps to prepare to succeed.
Q: What hobbies do you have outside of your sport?
A: I enjoy exercising and staying fit when I’m not worried about training for baseball. I like to travel to watch my sister play basketball for Niagara University. I also spend free time watching HGTV and Modern Family.
Q: If you could have any job in the world, what would it be and why?
A: Other than playing Major League Baseball, I would like to be an FBI field agent because I think it would be an exciting job while also having to be professional.
Q: Who inspires you the most in life?
A: Someone who inspires me would be my sister, Morgan. She inspires me because she is a great role model for me. She has taught me how to act and behave in life, and I’m greatly appreciative of that.
Q: Now that Morgan is up at Niagara, what do you miss and not miss about her being gone?
A: Now that she is at Niagara, one thing I miss about her being gone is her fun and friendly presence at home. One thing I don’t miss is sharing a bathroom with her. I love her, but she had a tendency to overwhelm the space with her things.
