SHIPPENSBURG — Helen J. Knowles, visiting professor of government at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., will speak at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, in Old Main Chapel at Shippensburg University as part of the institution’s Constitution Day celebration.

Knowles is a nationally renowned scholar about the U.S. Supreme Court and author of “The Tie Goes to Freedom: Justice Anthony M. Kennedy on Liberty.”

Interim university president Jody Harpster and fourth-graders from the Grace B. Luhrs University Elementary School will recite the Preamble to the Constitution at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at the flagpole outside Ezra Lehman Memorial Library.

An exhibit of Constitution Day collages, created by Luhrs students, will be on display in the library following the reading. In the event of rain, the reading will be in the elementary school’s multi-purpose room.

Both events are free and open to the public.
