Dear Editor:

The Joseph T. Simpson Public Library in Mechanicsburg gets by with a little help from our Friends ... actually, we get by with a lot of help from our Friends!

Oct. 15-21 is the 12th annual National Friends of Libraries Week, and it is the perfect opportunity for the trustees and staff of the Simpson Public Library to give our Friends a big shout out for all they do to make a difference for us every single day through their financial support and the gift of their time.

Established in 1980, our Friends of the Library group provides money each year to fund programming for children, teens, and adults, provide new furniture, contribute funding for new initiatives and technology, help support staff training, and much more. We could not do all that we do without them.

Most public libraries are supported by a Friends of the Library group. Next time you visit your public library, ask for information about the Friends. Join the Friends, support their events, and volunteer your time with them.

Joining the Friends of the Library is a terrific way to make new friends of your own, give back to your community, and help your library grow.
