Too often it seems that our elected officials are only concerned with making headlines and getting huge, dramatic wins. It makes government start to seem more like a competitive sports game than an entity that has drastic ramifications on the lives of everyday Americans. Every once in awhile, however, a politician does something that makes me feel a little less cynical.
One example of this is Gov. Wolf’s support and ultimate signing of Libre’s Law, which increases penalties for animal cruelty crimes. Prior to this, Pennsylvania was only one of three states that did not have a felony statute for severe animal abuse. That’s unacceptable. But I’m proud that we have people in office, like Gov. Wolf, who are thinking about what’s best for the people, and animals, of Pennsylvania.
We need more elected officials like Gov. Wolf who are in politics for the right reasons.
