• Mass of Christian burial for Mary E. Coyle, 85, of 335 Wesley Drive, Lower Allen Township, will be celebrated 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg.
    She died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997 in Harrisburg Hospital.
    Born Oct. 30, 1912 in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late John and Nora Touhy Coyle.
    She was retired from Steel Heidle, Philadelphia and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg.
    Surviving are a sister, Margaret Kenney of Plymouth Meeting, and a niece.
    The Rev. Chester P. Snyder will be celebrant at Tuesday's funeral mass. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, West Hanover Township.
    There will be no viewing or visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Malpezzi Funeral Home, 8 Market Plaza Way, Mechanicsburg.

  • Mass of Christian burial for Cornelius Overmere, 73, of 207 Linda Drive, Mechanicsburg, will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mechanicsburg
    He died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997 at home.
    Born Aug. 23, 1924 in Paterson, N.J., a son of the late Emiel and Hohannah Both Overmere, he was retired from the former Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot and was a former employee of Summitt Technology, Mechanicsburg.
    He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg, a lifetime member of VFW 6704, a 50-year member of American Legion Post 109, a charter member of B.D. Travel Club in Camp Hill, and a U.S. Navy veteran of the 6th Spec. Battalion.
    Surviving are his wife, Audrey R. Devine Overmere, and a daughter, Susan L. Van Rossum of Cape May Court House, N.J.
    The Rev. Chester P. Snyder will be celebrant at the funeral mass. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Upper Allen Township.

  • Warren R. Persak, 77, of 5401 Oxford Drive, Lower Allen Township, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997 in Harrisburg Hospital.
    Born Aug. 19, 1925 in Passaic, N.J., a son of the late Michael and Anne Yankowski Persak, he was retired from Eastern Tri-Pack in Bloomfield, N.J.
    He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg; 4th Degree, Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of Queenship Council 4068; a former member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Surf Side Beach, S.C.; and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
    Surviving are his wife, Louise A. Burns Persak; a son, Warren J. Persak of Mechanicsburg; a daughter, Janice L. Neske of Mahwah, N.J.; a brother, John Persak of Rutherford, N.J.; a sister, Gloria Mallia of San Diego, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
    Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in his church. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Upper Allen Township.
    There will be a viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday with a prayer service at 8 p.m. in Malpezzi Funeral Home, 8 Market Plaza Way, Mechanicsburg.
  • Funeral services for John E. Paulus Sr., 90, of Mechanicsburg, will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in Myers Funeral Home, 37 E. Main St., Mechanicsburg.
    He died Friday, Dec. 26, 1997 in Seidle Memorial Hospital, Mechanicsburg.
    Born Sept. 23, 1907 in Mechanicsburg, he was a son of the late W. David and Mary E. Gutshall Paulus and the widower of Pearl Simmons Paulus.
    A retired farmer, he was a member of Trindle Spring Lutheran Church, Mechanicsburg.
    He is survived by two sons, John E. Jr. of Carlisle and Creedin S. of Mechanicsburg; two daughters, Viola Matthews of Elliotsburg and Doris Gochenaur of Mechanicsburg; two brothers, Roy and Ralph of Mechanicsburg; three sisters, Pearl Heiges and Mae Morrow of Mechanicsburg and Mary Deitch of Carlisle; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence and Vurl Paulus.
    The Rev. Steven D. Dorsett will officiate at Friday's services. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday in the funeral home.

  • Funeral services for Betty P. Whitzel, 79, of 1944 Spring Road, Carlisle, will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle.
    She died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997 in Manor Care Health Services, Carlisle.
    Born June 17, 1918 in Roxbury, she was a daughter of the late Warren M. and Bessie Bechtal Barkley and the widow of Paul E. Whitzel, who died in 1990. She resided most of her life in the Carlisle area.
    She is a retired employee of Sylvania Shoe Co., Mt. Holly Springs, and a member of AARP.
    Mrs. Whitzel is survived by four sons, Paul E., Robert E. and Raymond L., all of Carlisle, and Barry L. of Shermans Dale; five daughters, Mary E. Failor, Joyce E. Worley, Carolyn Lee Kozlowski and Alice M. Witted, all of Carlisle, and Barbara A. Lynch of Shippensburg; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
    She is preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy E. Whitzel, who died in 1945.
    The Rev. Andrew Bradley will officiate at Wednesday's services. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Silver Springs Township.
    Friends may call Tuesday at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m.
