A verbal argument in Southampton Township turned violent and resulted in severe injuries.

Police say that John Emory Caldwell Jr., 28, of Shippensburg got into a verbal dispute with a 30-year-old man from Shippensburg. Caldwell allegedly punched the man in the jaw, who then fell backward and hit the concrete. The victim was taken to the hospital with a broken jaw, fractured skull and bruises to the brain.

Caldwell is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment.
