Two people were injured in what is now being called a four-vehicle crash by State Police.

Police issued a news release at 4:24 p.m. that says four vehicles were involved in the crash near mile marker 39.5 on Interstate 81 north in Dickinson Township at 12:09 p.m. Tuesday, including two tractor-trailers.

Police said two people were injured, with one person in critical condition.

Police said a full release with details about the crash will be released later this evening.

All lanes are now open on Interstate 81.

Both directions were temporarily closed after an eight-vehicle crash around noon. Police have not released details about the crash.

There is still some residual traffic in the area, including heavy traffic in the Carlisle area and Shippensburg area. There is also heavy traffic on local roads - Route 11 and Centerville Road - in Penn Township.

Police said that as of 2:04 p.m., one lane of Interstate 81 north and one lane of I-81 south is open at mile marker 39.5 in Dickinson Township following an eight-vehicle crash around noon Tuesday.

Traffic in both directions is at a standstill. Northbound traffic is backlogged to near Shippensburg, and southbound traffic is backlogged to the College Street exit in Carlisle.

Interstate 81 north remains closed from the Newville exit to Exit 44/Allen Road in Carlisle after a crash at about 12:04 p.m.

As of 1:30 p.m. traffic was backlogged in both directions on I-81, with southbound travel backed up in the Carlisle area, and northbound traffic at a standstill in the Newville and Walnut Bottom area.

PennDOT is also reporting heavy traffic on Route 174 and at the intersection of Centerville Road and Route 11 in Newville.

State Police reported that an eight-vehicle crash had shutdown the interstate in both directions. The southbound lanes were eventually re-opened.

The crash occurred at mile marker 39.5 in Dickinson Township.

Police said they do not know when I-81 north will be reopened. There is not yet any report of injuries, according to police.
