Each week, The Sentinel publishes stories we receive to prompts in Kids World and on www.cumberlink.com. This week’s Kids Speak Out prompt was “When it gets too cold to go outside, I like to ...”

When it gets cold outside, I like to curl up into a ball under a blanket, watching a Christmas movie and drinking hot cocoa with all my sisters there with me. I also like having a fire going to keep me warm.

When it gets too cold to go outside, I like to play hide and seek because my house had 100 hiding places. I mean 100!

When it gets too cold outside, me, my sisters and neighbors like to watch a movie in my basement and drink hot cocoa. We also like to bake chocolate chip cookies and eat those during the movie.

Paige Tyrell, 9

Grade 4

Upper Allen Elementary School

When it gets too cold outside, I like to drink hot chocolate with marshmallows. If it is snowing outside I like making snowmen, snow forts and go sledding. When I get too cold from playing outside, I come inside and drink hot chocolate with my family and friends. Sometimes we watch a movie together, too. I like the coldness very, very, very much.

Anna Hodge, 8

Grade 3

East Pennsboro Elementary School

When it is cold outside, I like to look at the trees with all of the snow on them. To me it looks like a winter wonderland. I feel like I am in winter heaven. It makes me feel like I’m from “The Nutcracker,” my favorite ballet. It’s where a girl gets a nutcracker and it comes to life. Then she goes on adventures with it. I love all of the frosty scenery—it looks like it is from the scene with the Sugar Plum Fairy. Every year when it gets cold out (around Christmas), I like to go and see the ballet. When it gets cold out, I don’t like to wear a big, bulky jacket. But I love the scenery.

Liviah Fujanic, 9

Grade 4

When it gets too cold to go outside, I like to play games with my family and have hot cocoa. I like to play Scrabble, but we don’t just play board games, we also play hide and seek, tag and we play freeze tag. But when I’m by myself, I read my book, build LEGOs and invite friends over.
