Each week, The Sentinel publishes stories we receive to prompts in Kids World and on www.cumberlink.com. This week’s Kids Speak Out prompt was “This year, I am thankful for ...”

“One thing I am thankful for is my school. One reason I am thankful for that is if I didn’t go to school, how would I grow up to be smart and go to college. Another reason is that many kids around the world don’t get to go to school, so I am lucky that I can. The third reason is I have two really nice teachers, who are Mrs. Strock and Mrs. Creeger, that help me learn every day. The last reason is that there are so many kids that are nice to hang out with.”

“This year, I am thankful for food, water, friends, my mom, my dad, my teacher and my school. My school teaches me. Food gives me energy. My dad takes me to wrestling. My mom feeds me. My friends play with me. Water makes me not thirsty.”

“This year, I am thankful for my new baby sister, Emersyn. I am also thankful for the food I eat every day because most people don’t even get food every day. I am thankful for my house that I live in and all of my family. I am happy that I am either at my house, school or anywhere. I am so thankful for everything I have and for the life that I am in.”

“What I am thankful for this year is my grandmother surviving her breast cancer. The reason I am thankful for that is because I don’t know how upset I would be if she didn’t. Thankfully, she found her breast cancer at stage zero. I love my grandmother so much!”

Vivian Dorsey, 9

Grade 4

Upper Allen Elementary School

“This year, I am thankful for my grandma because she is 93 years old. I am thankful for my parents and my helpful teachers. My parents are helpful because they use their money on me and they take good care of me. My teachers are helpful because they help me learn and be responsible for everything.”

Calyan Murillo

Grade 3

East Pennsboro Elementary School

“This year I am thankful for all the things we have, like coats to keep us warm and good schools for kids. We also have a good home and jobs, and most of all we love our family who keep us together when we do not feel good or when we are sad—your family is there for you. Just think if you did not have your family, what would you do?
