Each week, The Sentinel publishes stories we receive to prompts in Kids World and on www.cumberlink.com. This week’s Kids Speak Out prompt was “One day, I woke up to find a monster under the bed and ...”

“One day I woke up to find a monster under my bed and when it saw me it roared at me. I think it was trying to scare me but it didn’t scare me at all. Then the monster asked, ‘Did I scare you?’ ‘No,’ I replied. I asked the monster what was its name. It said his name was Monsterly. He was green with blue spots. He had really long horns, and one eye is red and the other eye is yellow. Monsterly is 4 feet tall. The part I think is funny about him is that he has a purple tongue and it can stretch out to 12 feet. Monsterly thinks I am a monster too. We start to like each other. We wrestle, play, fight and play with my toys all day. Then Monsterly asks if he can sleep in my room tonight. I tell him he can. We want to go downstairs and play so we went down. ‘The Lion King’ was on, so we watched the movie. Then we played for hours. It was time for bed, so me and Monsterly climbed in bed and fell asleep. I wondered what our next wonderful day would be like.”

“One day, I woke up to find a monster under the bed and I screamed! The monster had eight red eyes. The monster also had claws as sharp as a knife, and he had a tongue that was yellow with purple dots. Another thing the monster had was long pink hair—his hair went down to the floor, that’s how long his hair was. His arms and legs were as along as a kilometer. I was as scared as a rabbit.”

“One day I woke up to find a monster under my bed. He was 2,063 feet tall and 684 feet wide! Once he crawled out from under my bed, he ate the city! He stepped on a house and he didn’t even notice. He almost ate my house but I threw some metal at his teeth and all of them fell out. When they fell out, I grabbed all of them and put them in my room. I shrunk The monster down to 2 inches tall and 1 inch wide. I made a time machine and put him in it. I sent him to the Jurassic period. I destroyed the time machine and the world was saved.”
