Each week, The Sentinel publishes stories we receive to prompts in Kids World and on www.cumberlink.com. This week’s Kids Speak Out prompt was “My favorite unusual food is ...”

“My favorite unusual food is turnips. I love turnips because they taste so good. Turnips are purple and white. Some turnips look like radishes. The day I tried a turnip, I thought the first bite was OK. But when i took another bite, I thought it was a little better. I took one more and suddenly loved turnips. We got the turnips from the CSA. I love turnips!”

“My favorite unusual food is deer because (my) bologne is made from deer. I got it from when my dad shot a deer. But in order to get bologne, you half to shoot the deer in the right places—the heart, the thigh and the head. Then to get the bologne, you have to send it to a company, and that’s how you get bologne.”
