Kids Speak Out Batman
submitted by Rebecca Wheeler

Each week, The Sentinel publishes stories we receive to prompts in Kids World and on www.cumberlink.com. This week’s Kids Speak Out prompt was “My favorite comic book character is ...”

“My favorite comic book character is Ant Man because he gets small, and then he will go back to normal size. My other favorite character is Captain America because he has a shield and it comes back.”

Frederica Henson, 7

Grade 2

St. Patrick School

“My favorite comic book character is Spider-Man. He is my favorite because he shoots webs out of his hands. And the webs stick to things. Also, he gets to be friends with other superheroes.”

Caden Roper, 10

Grade 4

Crestview Elementary School

“My favorite comic book character is Black Widow and Princess Leia. They team up to defeat the evil villains. To defeat Darth Vader, they need Luke. And to defeat the bad Iron Man, they need Captain America.”

Evelyn Nericcio, 7

Grade 2

St. Patrick School

“My favorite comic book character is Batman! Batman is my favorite because I like the phrase “I’m Batman!” Batman is also my favorite because he has a lot of cool gadgets, including the batarang. I also like his cool, black cape. Unlike most superheroes, Batman does not have any super powers, but he does have physical powers like martial arts abilities and detective skills. Just like all other superheroes, Batman has an archenemy, The Joker. When crime is happening, Batman shines his cool bat logo in the sky to warn other people.”

Rebecca Wheeler, 10

Grade 4

Upper Allen Elementary School

“My favorite comic book character is Garfield. He is funny. He does not like Odie (neither do I). Garfield eats a lot (so do I). Garfield is even funnier in the comics than in the show! I really, really like Garfield. I don’t blame Arlene for loving him.”

Brenna Peddicord, 8

Grade 2

St. Patrick School

“My favorite comic book character is Spider-Man. My favorite thing about him is that he has webs. When Spider-Man shoots webs out of his wrist, it is like magic. My second favorite thing about him is his Spidey Sense. Spider-Man can just tell when something goes wrong. If I had to choose between all the superheroes, I would choose Spider-Man. To me, he has the best costume. He doesn’t have underwear on the outside, he doesn’t wear fish (Aquaman). Finally, he doesn’t have a weird mask (Batman).”
