This week’s Tour Through Time takes a look at two images of circus parades in downtown Carlisle.
The first image shows a crowd watching the carnival parade in front of Gehring Jewelry Store as a wagon is pulled by a group a camels along South Hanover Street in Carlisle circa 1910.
The second image shows a parade with a large group of elephants moving along North Hanover Street in Carlisle in 1886. Albert Allen Line was the photographer.
The third images shows Downie Bros. Circus parade in Carlisle, exact date not known. Photo taken by Robert Tempest, who lived from 1868 to 1955.

Tour Through Time will run Saturdays in The Sentinel as a joint project with the Cumberland County Historical Society. Sentinel photographers will work with staff at the Historical Society each week to offer a look at Carlisle and the surrounding area through the years.
