A Perry County man who was charged in the 1983 murder of his wife had his charge held to higher court during a preliminary hearing Tuesday.
Carl Rodgers, 62, of Shermans Dale, was charged in November in the death of his wife, Debra Jane Rodgers. The criminal homicide charge was held for trial by Magisterial District Judge Michael Schechterly.
Bail is still denied, and Rodgers remains in Perry County Prison.
The charge stems from the April 22, 1983, death of Debra Jane Rodgers. The state Attorney General’s Office said Carl Rodgers led Debra’s family members to her body in the woods and gave inconsistent statements to police.
“For more than three decades, the family and friends of Debra Jane Rodgers have sought justice, and wondered if this day would ever come,” Attorney General Josh Shapiro said. “Thanks to a strong collaboration between the Pennsylvania State Police and our office, and the effective use of a statewide investigating grand jury, Carl Rodgers stands charged with murder.”
