A pedestrian was killed after she was struck while trying to cross the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 in Franklin County Wednesday evening.

State Police at Chambersburg said Desi Marie L. Anderson, 23, of Chambersburg, was in the center median of I-81 in Guilford Township at 6:59 p.m. Wednesday when she started crossing the southbound lanes of travel toward the right shoulder between exits 16 and 17.

As she crossed into the far-right lane of travel, she was struck by a 2006 Mercedes-Benz C230 driven by Brennen X. O’Brien, 19, of Shippensburg, who was in the lane preparing to take the exit, police said.

Police said Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other information about the crash was provided.

The right lane of I-81 south was shut down for about 1½ hours.
