Bail is one of the first decisions made within the criminal justice system. Decisions on if and how to release a defendant while awaiting trial can have lasting impacts on the defendant, case outcomes and public safety.

This chart shows the five highest cash bail amounts imposed on cases filed within Cumberland County this week along with information about the case, defendant, judge and whether bail has been posted.

A defendant remains in custody until bail is posted. Roughly 23 percent of all cases filed between May 4 and May 10 had cash bail imposed.

Bail was denied in one case this week.

All information about bail is pulled from criminal dockets entered in the Unified Judicial System of Pennsylvania.

Snapshot prison population: 401 inmates
