Fire crews responded to a kitchen fire in the first block of Carlton Avenue in South Middleton Township Wednesday morning.

The call came about 11 a.m.

John Quirk, deputy chief of Union Fire Company, said one occupant of the house was transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation. One dog ran out of the house on its own, and another was rescued and taken to a local veterinarian.

The cause of the fire is unknown, and the fire marshal will be investigating.

Carlisle Fire and Rescue Services, Union Fire Company, Carlisle Barracks, Monroe Township and Mount Holly Spring fire departments responded to the scene.
