Cumberland County said Hertzler Bridge in West Pennsboro and Lower Frankford townships closed Thursday due to damage from a recent crash.

The county’s bridge engineer inspected the bridge Thursday morning and recommended the closure until repairs can be made, the county said. The county will release more details on repair plans and a re-opening date after a detailed inspection of the damage is completed.

Hertzler Bridge is 122 years old and carries Creek Road over Conodoguinet Creek. The bridge sees an average daily traffic rate of 460 vehicles. The posted weight is 8 tons.

The county is planning a full rehabilitation of the bridge in 2019 and 2020.
