Five people were displaced from their homes after an apartment building fire in New Cumberland Tuesday.

The fire started around 4 a.m. Tuesday on the 400 block of Haldeman Boulevard in New Cumberland.

The building has four apartments and there is heavy damage reported on the second floor.

The residents made it out of the building safely. Two cats removed from the building are being treated for smoke inhalation.

Rossmoyne Animal Emergency Trauma Center spokeswoman Danielle Johnson said the pets are in stable condition. She said the center is accepting donations to help them.
