Lightning struck the high school in the Shippensburg Area School District, which will delay its opening, according to the district.
James Burd Elementary School Principal Scott Shapiro Sunday sent information saying the lightning strike affected the electricity in the building.
Because of the incident, the start date for the high school has been delayed to Monday, Aug. 21. All other district buildings will open on schedule on Thursday, Aug. 17.
Students attending the Career Tech School will also begin on Aug. 21.
Shapiro also noted that there will be no ninth grade orientation or open house on Tuesday. The two events were re-scheduled to Thursday, Aug. 17, with ninth grade orientation at 6 p.m. at the high school auditorium and the open house at 6:30 p.m. at the auditorium.
Students will be notified of their bus assignments via an automated phone call on Monday.
