PennDOT said a contractor was able to open Route 233 ahead of schedule while working on a Cumberland Valley Rails to Trails project, but some work may remain at the area.

The road had been scheduled to reopen Monday morning but had reopened late Saturday, according to PennDOT.

PennDOT spokesman Greg Penny said that although the road reopened early, there is a “dip in the road” that will need to be addressed by the contractor before PennDOT signs off on the work.

Farhat Excavating LLC of Duncannon was the contractor in the project, which was to excavate and install a box culvert to extend the trail under the road.
