Emily Chung from Cumberland Valley High School will join the National Association for Music Education’s 2017 All-National Honor Ensembles on Nov. 26-29 at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
The jazz band and choir concerts take place 7:30-9 p.m., Nov. 28, and the concert band and symphony orchestra concerts begin at 10 a.m. Nov. 29, in the ballrooms at Disney Coronado Springs Resort. The concerts are free and open to the public. Tickets are not required.
Chung is a senior at Cumberland Valley High School. She has studied music for 13 years and has been a piano accompanist for the high school choir and various musical performances. She is also the concertmaster of the Harrisburg Youth Symphony Orchestra and of the Cumberland Valley High School Orchestra.
In her junior year, Chung was selected to participate in the All-Eastern orchestra festival at Atlantic City and the Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall. Chung has been invited to play in the 2018 All-State PMEA Conference as a featured performer, along with other members of the CV string quartet. Chung is the winner of the 2017 Young Artist Competition and will perform as the featured soloist with the Hershey Symphony at the Holiday Spectacular concert in December.
The All-National Honor Ensembles consist of a concert band, symphony orchestra, mixed choir, and jazz ensemble. Students were chosen through an audition process. The concert band and symphony orchestra will each have 155 and 152 instrumentalists respectively, the jazz ensemble 21 instrumentalists, and the mixed choir 281 vocalists.
