The new year may see upgrades to Carlisle’s borough hall.
Borough Manager Matt Candland said changes are being made primarily around the receptionist area that will also help with building security.
Residents most often go to the borough office at 53 W. South St. to pay a water bill or a parking ticket or to get a building permit. Currently, borough residents go to a single receptionist and occasionally backlogs will form. Residents also have to go to different offices within the building to complete their business in the borough.
For example, someone who wants a building permit for a shed now has to stop at the receptionist, then go upstairs to get the permit and return to the receptionist to pay. The new arrangement will allow residents to do everything at the front desk.
Candland said the upgrades will primarily involve some partitioning, moving some employees’ work areas and adding windows and doorways.
Candland said the plans for the upgrades are being finalized, and the borough hopes to make the changes in 2018. The borough has set aside $75,000 for the improvements in its 2018 budget.
