Pixel & Hammer is preparing to continue its tradition of helping local nonprofit organizations as it plans this year’s edition of Claus Cause.

The event has evolved over the years, but now offers participants a night of bowling and activities that will this year benefit Canine Rescue of Central PA.

Bowling Night will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at Midway Bowling Center. The cost is $25 per person for a team of six.

Emily Bear of Pixel & Hammer shared more about the annual event in this week’s 5 Questions.

Q. Tell us about the origins of Claus Cause.

A. Claus Cause is a holiday giving project that Pixel & Hammer organizes around Christmas time each year as a way to share in the spirit of giving. We always felt that as a team, we needed to give back as much as we could to help the town that helped us get started.

It started with our team encouraging our local clients to get involved and host their own events, fundraisers and specials so that we could give one large donation together to an organization with the marketing help of our team. Over time it has evolved into a super awesome one-night event where we work closely with Molly Pitcher Brewing Company and Midway Bowling Alley to ensure that we put on a great event that we can be proud of. We still have so much support from our local clients who sponsor the event, donate silent auction items and come to bowl.

Q. In what ways has Claus Cause been able to assist nonprofits through the years?

A. As a team of 5-7 people, we have organized Claus Cause and have raised over $12,000 for various nonprofit organizations that are positively affecting our local community. We cannot take all of the credit, as our community provides so much support, but we are proud of our team for all of the hard work and time donated to the cause.

Q. How did you choose this year’s charity, and what makes it special?

A. Each year our entire team nominates local organizations that we could help raise money for. This year our goal was to give to a small organization that would see the most impact from our efforts. We have friends who volunteer at the Canine Rescue of Central PA and know just how passionate this organization is.

Though the canine rescue has a focus on the dogs, really in the end it is about the families that the dogs get adopted into. All of us here in the office have or have had dogs and know the joy and fullness they can bring to a person, and we love the idea of supporting an organization that can bring that experience to others.

Q. How can people be a part of Bowling Night this year?

A. The most fun and impactful way to get involved is to grab a few co-workers, friends or family and register for a lane. Lane registration is $150 for up to six people and includes pizza, snacks, custom swag and a really good time. Nonbowlers are also welcome to attend to participate in the silent auction and to meet some guest dogs who will be up for adoption at the event. You can learn more at clauscausecarlisle.com, where we are also accepting donations that go straight to the Canine Rescue of Central PA’s PayPal account.

We are also still accepting small sponsorships and silent auction donations. These inquiries can be sent to shannon@pixelandhammer.com.

Q. What drives Pixel & Hammer to keep doing Claus Cause?

A. The Claus Cause promotion and planning is a lot of work for our small team, but it is so awesome to see our community coming together to raise money for an organization that does great things. We love how much fun everyone has, and of course, cutting a nice big check for the organization is very rewarding.
