Dickinson College Wednesday announced that Stephen M. Smith, president and CEO of L.L. Bean and Dickinson alumnus, will deliver the college’s commencement address on Sunday, May 20.

Smith, who graduated from Dickinson in 1992, will also receive an honorary doctorate of business management.

Other honorary degree recipients this year will be Albert Alley, co-founder of humanitarian organization World Blindness Outreach Inc.; Nancy Hooff, real estate developer and former foreign service officer; and Arthur K. Wheelock Jr., curator at the National Gallery of Art and professor of art history at the University of Maryland.

Alley and Hooff are both graduates of Dickinson College.

Dickinson will also present the Sam Rose ‘58 and Julie Walters Prize at Dickinson College for Global Environmental Activism to Our Children’s Trust, an advocacy organization that gained national attention by supporting 21 youth plaintiffs suing the federal government over climate action. One of the plaintiffs in the case is first-year Dickinson student Sophie Kivlehan.

Julia Olson, the trust’s founder and executive director, will accept the prize at the May ceremony.
