Carlisle’s Desperate Times Brewery recently brought home a silver medal from the 36th Annual Great American Beer Festival in Denver, Colorado, for their Schwarzbier.
Desperate Times Brewery was among 74 entries in the dark lager category.
Owners Matt and Susan Dunn were ecstatic about the win.
“Never in our wildest dreams did we think we could accomplish this in less than a year,” Matt Dunn said. “This is such an honor and hopefully there will be many more. We strive to make great, enjoyable, smooth tasting beers that fall directly into their designated perimeters for their style.”
The GABF is for craft breweries that produce no more than 6 million barrels per year. This year the festival included 2,217 breweries representing all 50 states, plus Washington, D.C.
The breweries were able to enter four beers in 98 categories in which 293 beers won awards. Desperate Times entered three other beers in addition to Schwarzbier.
“We definitely were up against some amazing, highly recognized competition,” Susan Dunn said.
Two years ago, the couple gave up their jobs to devote their lives to Desperate Times Brewery.
They are part of the Cumberland Valley Beer Trail and for recently received “Best Craft Brewery in Cumberland Valley” honors.
