The former Sunnyside restaurant in Carlisle will be renovated to make room for a new restaurant.

Carlisle Borough Council Thursday night approved a complete waiver of the requirement for the submission, review and approval of a formal land development plan for the site at 850 N. Hanover St.

The site is under the ownership of Vito Iannuzzi, who purchased it in 2015. He declined Thursday night to offer details about the specific restaurant plans.

Constantinos “Charlie” Mallios opened the original Sunnyside in 1948, and his son, Nick, ran the restaurant from 1973 to 2010. It was then sold to Patrick LeBlanc, who closed the restaurant in November 2011.
