SHREWSBURY — Two women died and a third is critically injured after a house fire in Shrewsbury Township early Friday.
York County Coroner Pam Gay said the women were trapped in the basement of the home in the first block of Foundry Road. The fire started around 1:45 a.m. Friday.
The women initially escaped the fire. It is believed they went back inside to rescue a cat.
Their identities have not been released. It’s believed both were in their 60s.
The third woman sustained facial burns. She was flown to a burn center where she was in critical condition.
Flames were shooting from the home when firefighters arrived. They knew two people were trapped but could not get to them.
The cause is under investigation.
