PennDOT maintenance crews on Saturday will make repairs on southbound Interstate 283 in the vicinity of mile marker 2.4 at the Chambers Hill Road overpass in Swatara Township.

The repairs involve a railing on top of a concrete barrier that was damaged by an overturned tractor-trailer on Jan. 15. In that crash, the tractor-trailer was hauling chickens and forced the closure of the highway that day.

Repair work will start around 6 a.m. Saturday and should wrap up by 4 p.m., PennDOT said.

During the repair work, the right southbound lane of I-283 will be closed. That will restrict the highway to one lane, and the ramp from I-283 north to I-283 south in the Eisenhower Interchange will also be closed.

Drivers will be detoured by continuing onto I-283 north to Route 322 east to the Penhar Interchange, then onto Penhar Drive, Chambers Hill Road, Eisenhower Boulevard and finally onto Lindle Road where there is a short distance to the interchange with southbound I-283.
