The Carlisle Garden Club Garden of the Month for April is that of Mary Berwick, 6 Baird Court. Her garden, which features a wide variety of perennials, will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday.
“It’s almost completely a perennial-type garden,” Berwick explained. She grows several species of irises, Japanese anemones, columbine, poppies, peonies, sweet woodruff, bee balm, daylillies, mums, cat mint, feverfew and lamb’s ear.
Berwick has been gardening for “more than 30 years,” she said, and she got into it “because I just love flowers.”
In addition to her perennial garden she has a kitchen garden with herbs that include sage, mint, parsley, oregano, chives and thyme.
“Springtime is my favorite, seeing everything come back to life,” Berwick said. “Usually we have enough rain and water that everything looks so nice. It’s just a special time of year.”
Her garden has grown through the contributions of friends, who have given her starters of various plants over the years, she said.
“Probably about three-quarters of my garden has come from different friends,” she added.
