Karl Robert Thorn, Sr., age 79, of Carlisle and previously of NJ, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at UPMC Carlisle Hospital.
He was born June 11, 1938 in Philadelphia to the late Milda Blass Thorn.
Karl retired from AT&T with 43 years of service as a Communications Technician. He was a proud graduate of Drexel Evening College with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and a member of Alpha Sigma Lambda Fraternity. Karl was a hardworking man who worked full time while putting himself through college. He enjoyed woodworking, watching Fox Business News, gardening, NASCAR, especially Jeff Gordon, puzzles, fixing up his home and the church and was a stamp collector. Most of all, though, Karl enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Karl was previously an active member of Beverly United Methodist Church, NJ and was a member and Trustee and Administrator Council Chair at Hickorytown United Methodist Church. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Georgia Dreher Thorn of Carlisle; two sons, Karl Jr. (Nina Veruete) of Washington, DC and Stephen (Diane Hong Qiu) of North Potomac, MD; two grandchildren, Katlynn and Kurt Thorn; brother, Marvin of NJ, sister, Milda Peake, of VT; and a brother-in-law, George H. Dreher, III (Cathy) of NJ.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, March 12, 2018 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA with Pastor Therese M. Finney officiating. Burial will follow at Letort Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hickorytown United Methodist Church, 1510 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA 17013.
